Ingredients

  • 1 bag 32 oz frozen tater tots (do not thaw)
  • 1 lb ground pork sausage or breakfast sausage
  • 8 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Optional: Diced bell peppers onions, or fresh green onions for garnish

Method

  1. Preheat & Prep: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Brown the Meat: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground pork sausage and cook until fully browned, breaking it into small crumbles with a spatula. Drain off any excess grease completely.
  3. Layer the Base: Spread the cooked, crumbled sausage evenly along the bottom of your prepared baking dish. Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese directly over the meat layer.
  4. Whisk the Egg Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, crack the eggs and whisk them thoroughly with the milk, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until completely combined.
  5. Assemble: Arrange the frozen tater tots in a tight, single layer on top of the cheese and sausage. Slowly pour the egg mixture evenly over the entire dish, ensuring it soaks through all the layers.
  6. Top with Cheese: Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of sharp cheddar cheese evenly across the top of the tater tot layer.
  7. Bake to Perfection: Place the dish in the preheated oven uncovered. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the center is fully set, the cheese is beautifully melted, and the tater tots turn a gorgeous crispy golden brown.
  8. Cool & Serve: Remove from the oven and let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes to allow the layers to settle. Slice into generous portions, garnish with fresh green onions if desired, and serve warm!
